LANES TO BE SHIFTED AND SPEED LIMITED IN THE ROAD SECTIONS CONCERNED

The construction of the new junction on Budaörsi út as a surface part of the Metro Line M4 Project has reached a new phase. After preparations begun in August 2014, the development continues with the construction of temporary lanes and major utility diversions as of 26 October. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW JUNCTION ON BUDAÖRSI ÚT BEGINS AS A SURFACE PART OF THE METRO LINE M4 PROJECT

Following over a decade of preparation, professional negotiations, design and real-estate settlement, the construction of a new, two-level junction on Budaőrsi út can commence. The work is part of the Metro Line M4 project, and will make reach easier to the Kelenföld intermodal junction and thus Metro Line M4. As a result of the development, public transport will have an advantage, and a new, accessible pedestrian and bicycle link will be established between Sasad, Őrmező and Etele tér. The construction budget is HUF 7.2 billion, and will be implemented in three phases by December 2015 according to plans. Though deviations are to be expected in several phases during the construction, vehicle traffic will be maintained in spite of the great volume of the works.

NOVELTIES ON METRO LINE M4

Handed over on 28 March by Viktor Orbán and István Tarlós, Metro Line M4 has introduced a number of technical innovations, which are different from the other lines. Among others, the internal shaping of spaces, the ventilation and the passenger information display, full accessibility on the entire line, and the automatic train control and monitoring are quite different from the other lines. Following the handover, passengers could use the line free of charge over the weekend, and experts have already assessed the experiences of the opening weekend.

VIKTOR ORBÁN AND ISTVÁN TARLÓS HANDED OVER METRO LINE M4

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Budapest Mayor István Tarlós handed over the fourth metro line of the city. The public can use the over 7-km line linking the Kelenföld and the Keleti railway stations free of charge between midday Friday and until operation ends on Sunday.
It is almost unbelievable, but I can very well say, Metro Line 4 has at last been completed, and we can hand it over to the public of Budapest. The city has been long awaiting for this moment, longer than we would think, for over 40 years – as Viktor Orbán said in his hand-over speech.

NOISE LEVEL OF METRO LINE M4 BELOW PRESCRIBED LIMIT

Metro Line M4 is to start operation in the spring of 2014, which will mean another new, 21st-century level, underground link between Buda and Pest through the city centre. The aim of Budapest Municipality, Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) and BKV is to provide highest standard services to those travelling in the city. In the course of preparing, designing and constructing the new metro line of Budapest, we have complied with all requirements prescribed by law and competent authorities. Experts took measurements of noise and reverberation pollution before construction works began and during the test runs at several points, and their results proved that the noise and reverberation load of the new metro does not even approach the limits prescribed by law, including the areas where the alignment of Metro Line M4 is relatively close to the surface.

ALL TEN M4 STATIONS NOW HAVE THEIR COMPLETION CERTIFICATES

The last station of metro line M4, Kelenföld Railway Station, has received its completion certificate from the National Transport Authority, and so all stations are now ready for the Test in Traffic Operation. Before obtaining the temporary completion certificate for the entire line, the certificates for the stations and the depot had to be had, and the tunnels also have to following the on-going commissioning tests without passengers. Moreover, all the surface structures, roads and sewers built in connection to the stations have to be licensed. As a result of this complex licensing process, the National Transport Authority (NKH), the Budapest Government Office and the competent water authorities have issued 90% of the permits required.

THE AUTHORITY PHASE OF COMMISSIONING METRO LINE M4 BEGAN TODAY

The passengerless test operation (the so-called “white test”) supervised by the National Transport Authority (NKH) began early this morning, where the entire automatic system and the trains have to meet the safety criteria prescribed by the NKH and used in international practice in order that the Test in Traffic Operation (i.e. test operation with passengers) can commence at the end of March. During this roughly two-month period minor failings requiring fine-tuning might occur, but defects that might endanger passenger safety cannot, this being the precondition of issuing the completion certificate of the entire metro line.

ALREADY SEVEN STATIONS OF METRO LINE M4 HAVE THEIR COMPLETE PACKAGES OF LICENCES

In order to obtain the temporary completion certificate for the start of the Test in Traffic Operation at the end of March, DBR Metro Project Directorate has to obtain a number of other permits and licences for the surface and sub-surface works completed from the various competent authorities involved. Apart from the commissioning of the line, this highly complex licensing procedure is the most important task of the project now. As a result of the good cooperation between the Budapest Municipality, Budapest Government Office, National Transport Authority and all other competent authorities involved and DBR Metro Project Directorate, the process is making good progress: there are already seven stations that have obtained not only the completion certificates but also all the related licences required.
