NEW PHASE IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW JUNCTION ON BUDAÖRSI ÚT

22 october 2014

LANES TO BE SHIFTED AND SPEED LIMITED IN THE ROAD SECTIONS CONCERNED

The construction of the new junction on Budaörsi út as a surface part of the Metro Line M4 Project has reached a new phase. After preparations begun in August 2014, the development continues with the construction of temporary lanes and major utility diversions as of 26 October. The construction goes on until December 2015, during this time, at peak hours, road traffic will be maintained in 2x3 lanes, but they will be shifted and narrowed, and speed limited to 50 kph.

The new two-level road junction of key importance is being built as part of the Metro Line M4 Project, which will provide easy reach to the intermodal junction at Kelenföld (on the Etele tér and Őrmező sides) and thereby Metro Line M4.

The construction of the junction will take place in three main phases. During the first phase, which is expected to last until the end of 2014, a temporary lane for construction traffic, i.e. delivery of materials and serving work, will be built in the median strip. Most of the utility diversions will also be carried out in this period.

The second major phase, which is to be begun early in 2015, includes the construction of the return lanes under the main road, which will provide a safe and fast connection for traffic from the Őrmező exit of the Metro Line M4 terminal towards the M1-M7 motorway section and for traffic from the city centre towards the Őrmező exit of the Metro Line M4 terminal. The two new underpasses will be built to the northeast and the southwest of the axis of Beregszász út and Alsó Beregszász út.

The third phase, which is expected to start in the autumn of 2015, will include the construction of traffic-light junctions connecting to the underpasses built in the second phase at the junctions of Budaörsi út and Beregszász út, Balatoni út and Alsó Beregszász út. The pedestrian bridge between Bozókvár út and Sasadi út will be removed, in its stead a new fully accessible and safe pedestrian subway will be built, with access for wheelchairs and bicycles.

The two-level junction to be completed by the end of 2015 will make traffic be more reasonable and safer, provide better access to Metro Line M4, a fully accessible pedestrian and bicycle connection between Sasad, Őrmező and Etele tér. In spite of the complexity of the road construction works, road traffic will be maintained in all three phases for 2x3 lanes though shifted and narrowed, and speed limited to 50 kph.
