Gusztáv Klados

In 1972 he receives a civil engineering, and then in 1976 an organizing engineering diploma at the Budapest University of Technology, and later finishes a higher education in foreign trading as well. After graduating at the Steinmetz Miklós High School in Lőrinc, as a university student he works at the construction of metro line 2, and then from 1972 to 1980 he is a site engineer, and later shift leader on the tunnel boring machine during the construction of metro line 3, but also manages the construction works of the Deák Square station.

Then from 1980 he is a technical consultant at the metro construction in Calcutta for 5 years, where he works at a tunnel similar to the one in Hungary with a diameter of 5.1 m, with reinforced blocks and tunnel borer. Between 1985 and 1987 he is the regional chief engineer of KÉV Metró, he is delegated to supervise the works in Szolnok and simultaneously in India. Thereafter – as a project manager now – he returns to Calcutta for another two years, and then in 1989 he is invited from here to be a chief building manager at the construction of the Channel Tunnel under the English Channel between France and England. He is assigned to complete an 18 km long, 8.4 m Ř section of the 30 km long north tunnel under the see at the English side, but his name can be related to the construction of the gateway corridors planed in every 375 m and the balancing tunnels in every 250 m between the main tunnels.

From 1991 he is a building manager in Lesotho, South-Africa, where he builds a 22 km long 5.3 m Ř section of the northern water transport tunnel. From 1995 he is the chief building manager of the Athens metro line 2 and 3. In Greece he builds a total of about 12 km metro tunnel with a diameter of 8.5 m, with open face tunnel boring machines, amid archeological remains and the ancient water supply wells and tunnels in Athens. From 1999 he is a project and then tender manager for a German company, HOCHTIEF, at the Asian department, then at the headquarters in Essen.

In 2001 he goes to Singapore where he directs the construction works of the deep tunnel sewerage system, which is built sometimes in a depth of 50 m, and then from 2002 he is the senior project manager of the SMART project in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. The SMART is 9.7 km long flood management tunnel with the diameter of 13.2 m, within which a two level motorway was built as well. The grandiose tunnel was built with two slurry shield TBMs, in very difficult geological conditions, and in a metropolis environment.

Following an airport express metro as a short detour in New Delhi he returns home to Hungary in June 2008. Initially he took part in the management of the metro 4 construction as an operational project manager, and then following the unanimous decision of the General Assembly of Budapest he is the project director of the DBR Metro Project Directorate from November 2008.

He is married with two children.
