BUDAPEST MUNICIPALITY AND THE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (NFÜ) CONCLUDE A NEW CONTRACT TO FOSTER TRANSPARENCY IN THE FINANCING OF METRO LINE 4
Budapest Municipality and the National Development Agency signed a new, unified contract on the financing of the M4 Project on 21 December 2012. In order to maximize eligibility for European Union funding, the Grant and the Financing Contracts were amended under unified principles. Set principles are to be applied in the accounting of additional works and variations and the management of claims. Signed by Mayor István Tarlós and National Development Agency President Zoltán Petykó, the new contract renders the measure of state and municipality involvement transparent, and the new framework budget of the project calculates with, aside from all the remaining works, the total amount of the greatest financial risk foreseeable. The total cost of the investment is HUF 452 billion. The decision of the Municipal Assembly on 21 December also enables the replacement of the Engineer organization of the metro project; BKK Közút (Public Road) Zrt. under the aegis of Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) will fulfil all the organizing engineer tasks of the M4 project as of 2013.
THE TESTING OF THE NEW METROPOLIS VEHICLES CONTINUES ON LINE M4
The testing of the prototype of the new four-car metro vehicle, which had arrived in Budapest at the end of November, has been completed on Line M2. Preparations for the imminently starting endurance test on Line M4 between stations Kelenföldi pályaudvar and Móricz Zsigmond körtér will continue; the first train of Line M4 will thus begin its runs on its own track.
SUCCESSFUL TRACK TEST IN THE BUDA SECTION OF METRO LINE 4 / DURATION TESTS OF THE VEHICLE CAN BEGIN IN DECEMBER
ALSTOM has transported the prototype of the Metro Line 4 trains to Budapest in order to start duration tests in the middle of December. The precondition of this is the testing of the track in the section of the line between Kelenföldi pályaudvar and Móricz Zsigmond körtér, where the duration test will be carried out; moreover further control tests will be done on the vehicle which was tested in France, as well.

REINSTATEMENT OF BAROSS TÉR BEGINS
The contract for the surface refurbishment of Baross tér had not been let to a contractor when the new municipal leadership took office and Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) stood up, thus earlier promises of a swift handover proved to be untenable from the outset. Upon the request of the Municipality, BKK reviewed the earlier designs, because certain details of which had proved to be conceptually defective (e.g. transfer distances for pedestrians not only did not decrease, but increased in the original designs). After the review of the designs, the winner contractor commenced work. Handover of the square is expected to take place in 2014.

NEW M4 PROJECT SUMMARY NEWSLETTER
The works of the M4 Project has reached 70% completion this December. Having completed tunnelling last year, the contractor dismantled and removed the TBM shields and their back-up equipment. By the end of the year, the construction of all the station boxes on the line was completed. As it has often been said, the works now being carried out, trackwork, fit-out and systems installation, are what turn this underground system of concrete structures, the tunnels and station boxes, into an actual metro line. Apart from well advanced and visibly advancing surface reinstatement works, these are the works still to be completed before commercial test runs in the first half of 2014. The most spectacular construction work being over, all underground works are progressing according to schedule. It is these we wish to summarize, to give an overview of where the metro construction has reached, in this year-end newsletter.
