The surprises of BKV’s children’s day achieved great success

On Children’s Day thousands of children gathered for the BKV event on Deák Square renamed on this day “Children’s Square”. Along with their parents the children enjoyed the concert of the 100 Folk Celsius group and were pleased with the small gifts received.

The hundred-strong staff of “smile-controllers” and the fifty fairy-tale personalities roaming the site and the bus/tram lines of BKV and sharing out sweets and balloons to the children were a huge success. The free photographs with the fairy-tale personalities also caught the fancy of many. The winners received the awards of the drawing competition “My friend, the metro”. The winner school classes received the awards on site.
The pupils of Primary Schools told Miklós Hagyó, Deputy Mayor of Budapest, that it had been a fun to travel to site using the services of BKV free of charge. They promised to use during the day this opportunity along with their parents to visit the site of other events as well.

Free ride on public transport on Children’s Day for the minors and other surprises expected the passengers. In the morning BKV entertained children and adults alike with Children’s Day’s shows and announced the winners of the drawing competition in the topic of the fourth line of the metro.
Drawing competition “My friend, the metro”
The DBR Metro Project Directorate of BKV Private Limited Company published a drawing competition for the pupils of elementary schools entitled "My friend, the Metro,” and offered the opportunity to the students of grammar schools to visit the Information Centre on the Etele Square, too. The objective was to familiarize with and bring closer to children, parents, and teachers the construction of the Metro.
Dozens of classes rolled up to the competition and hundreds of drawing were received. Many pupils and students visited the Information Centre as part of the school classes. Apart from the prizes awarded to the best drawings these will soon be exhibited at a special exhibition at the sites of metro construction.
The selection panel
Classes of Primary Schools were invited to competition in any topic related to metro construction and traveling by the underground. Any number of pupils were free to submit drawings on behalf of each class. The selection panel composed of Miklós Hagyó, Deputy Mayor, Attila Antal, General Director of BKV Private Limited Company and Árpád Balogh, Project Director of the DBR Metro Project Directorate thanked the participants for the works submitted.
Awards
1st prizes: One-day boat trips on the Danube, BKV fares for all pupils of the class and souvenirs related to the fourth line of the metro; 2nd prizes: Valuable detur, cinema tickets, BKV fares and souvenirs related to the fourth line of the metro; 3rd prize: Entry tickets to the Museum of BKV on the Deák Square, BKV fares and souvenirs related to the fourth line of the metro; Special prizes: Entry tickets to the Museum of BKV on the Deák Square and BKV fares.
The three winners of first prizes in the age group of Classes 1 to 6 are as follows:
- Class 3/b, Tátra Square Primary School class
- Class 4/a, Körösi Csoma Sándor Primary School
- Class 6, Munkácsy Mihály Primary School

Of the classes visiting the Information Centre the winner of the cruise on the Danube was selected by draw at the event of the Children’s Day.
Free ride on the public transport on Children’s Day
From 0 to 24 o’clock on Children’s Day (May 27) all minors below 18 years of age and up to two adult guardians of minors below 10 years of age can travel free of charge along the entire length of all lines of BKV Private Limited Company, upon the instructions of Miklós Hagyó, Deputy Mayor for Urban Operations and Asset Management of Budapest.
From 0.00 a.m. on May 26 to 24 p.m. on May 27 all minors below 14 years of age can travel free of charge on boats operated by BKV’s subcontractors between Boráros Square and Római Beach. In this case, the discounts do not apply to the guardians.
The intention of Miklós Hagyó was to contribute, in this way, to the opportunity to visit shows and cultural events for children and their families and to gather experiences that would make Children’s Day in this year a memorable event for them.
More surprises in the City and on Deák Square
Sunday morning the most popular cartoon favorites dressed in fancy outfits entertained the children on the busiest lines of BKV. Their guardians, the smile controllers distributed sweets and delicacies to the passengers. Fifty masqueraders and hundred smile controllers will travel on the metro and trams lines citywide. The concert of the 100 Folk Celsius group, BKV shows and other surprises wait for the visitors of events on the BKV Children’s Day on Deák Square.
