The support for the underground construction remains high

The most recent representative survey data has not changed significantly, it remains near 80% the proportion of those who believe that the metro construction is important or essential. The public clearly expects and supports the Metro 4.

The underground project preparation and assessment handling is less positive

The support for the metro as a means of transport is high. This shows that most of us know that the capital’s public transportation system will be improved significantly with the new metro, basically there is no alternative to the investment. However it is also true that the view of the controllability of assessment is negative. 59% of those surveyed feel that the project is an „ill-directed, problem” investment. This relatively high number shows the first initial unpreparedness and the present real problems, and is also likely due to the project is the most investment in the foreground , which often deals with the negative media and politics as well. 34% of the respondents are less critical, it is believed that it is about the new leadership. Of these, 17% believe that „ the project is on the right road” and 14% responded „neither worse nor better, than anywhere else”, 3% were „satisfied” with this investment.

Build more metro

About the extension of the line, all(93%) would like to have a longer metro. Most would extend to the Bosnyák square(37%) and the Budaörs flower market(34%), but 2 out of 10 believes that Metro 4 should be extended until the „Zugló Körvasút”. By only 7% there is no need to extend the line.

The majority looks at it as an expensive investment

Regarding the underground construction costs almost half (46%) categorically think it is an expensive investment and 23% of those who thinks that it is slightly expensive. Overall, 69% of the people feels that Metro 4 is expensive, but 3 out of 10 is more realistically assessed , they consider the investment to a medium-priced category.

Many will use the new metro

We tried to estimate the utilization of the Metro 4 with link question between the metro and Bus 7. Overall, 68% of those surveyed said they will use the new metro. Nearly half of the respondents (46%) claimed that usually travels on Bus 7 , and if the underground is built, they will use it instead of the bus for sure. The 9% of the passengers from Bus 7 said, that they would not use the metro, but some of them probably will use it anyway. The 17% of the respondents don’t travel on Bus 7 and therefore they planned to use the metro less. On the positive side, that of those who do not use the Bus 7 (22%) believe they will travel with the new metro.

The majority are satisfied with the project-related information

The knowledge and information about public opinions show that 67% of respondents are satisfied or mostly satisfied with the public information. 74% feel well informed about this subject, but most(41%), unfortunately, acquired information about the project from the press.

The website metro4.hu considered positive, 72% feel the quality of the site is appropriate. The interest for the project and the topic is high(68%), and they are interested in any information on the metro and can be seen that the technical information is also on „demand”(16%).

The research background

In past 3 months, nearly 3000 have been completed the DBR Metro Project Directorate website (www.metro4.hu) questionnaire. The research of course, not representative, but the large number of respondents allows for a broad analysis of the data. It should also be noted that visitors of the website are more likely those who were interested in the metro works, and of course, opponents of the project are over-represented.
