The Government and the Metropolitan Municipality hold together in their joint support of the construction of the 4th line of the Budapest Metropolitan
The on-going reconciliation meetings among the experts of the Metropolitan Municipality, the Government representatives and the competent decision makers from Brussels center on the amount of funds and forms of support to be appropriated from the EU cohesion fund for the implementation of the 4th line of the Budapest Metropolitan. The European Union regards the 4th line of the Budapest Metropolitan as a project essential for the long-term sustainability of the community public transport, for the improvement of the service standard of rail-guided public transport and reduction of air pollution.
The Government, the leadership of the Metropolitan Municipality and the coalition parties hold together in backing the implementation of the 4th line of the Budapest Metropolitan since this new line of the Metro is expected to radically change life in Budapest. The project covers the reconstruction of the environment of stations: the traffic will be less intensive and the air will become cleaner. The underground public transport will be faster, less noisy and safer. A submission prepared on the basis of the report of László Becker, Commissioner of the Metro Project to be discussed at the General Meeting of the Metropolitan Municipality this spring is underway.
The negotiations with the European Union do not affect the construction works currently underway. The contracting process for the grants may take months, yet the project for the implementation of the 4th line of the Budapest Metropolitan keeps on running under the terms of the agreement between the Government and the Metropolitan Municipality stipulated also by law.
