THE DBR STEPS UP THE INTENSITY OF THE COVERAGE OF THE METRO PROJECT FOR THE EU AND FOR THE RESIDENTS

24 november 2008

Information of the EU on the project of the 4th line of the metro was also on the agenda of the today’s session of the Mayor’s Cabinet. The objective is to provide the decision makers in Brussels with accurate background information along with the financial and technical documentation of the application for grant. This information should cover the development plans, transport concept and individual projects of the Hungarian capital. The budget allocated by the DBR through the internal regrouping of expenses for multi-language publications, exhibitions in Brussels and Budapest and various professional conferences amounts to HUF 80 million, therefore this decision generates no excess costs.

Since 2005 DBR has been spending in average HUF 10 million quarterly for the information activities related to the project of the 4th line of the metro. Of the total budget of HUF 214 million approximately HUF 183 million has been spent so far, among others, for the residential information on the progress of construction and traffic restrictions, on information booths, project billboards, open days, press advertisements, press visits, website updating, various professional conferences and also on managing the project-related inquiries of the residents. Based on international examples from one to one and a half per cent of the total project budget is spent on information; in the case of the project of the 4th line of the Budapest metro this figure is equal to 0.06%.
As a first action for the information of the European Union, an interactive show introducing the transport development plans and new strategic ideas of Budapest, including, first of all, the project of the 4th line of the metro was organized in November in the building of the European Parliament and the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Brussels.
At the time when the loan agreement was concluded the need for introducing the project at the European level was not and could not be included in the objectives. The DBR Metro Project Directorate intends to make up the excess costs incurred in connection with the information provided to the European Union by internal regrouping which would not add to the total project budget. The DBR is committed to keep information outlays at the necessary minimum level yet making sure that fair and timely background of the construction of the metro and the changes affecting traffic is provided for the residents.
