The builders of the Metropolitan take special care of all the protected trees
One of the key aspects of the construction of the Metropolitan is to avoid the felling of protected trees.
For example the entire construction technology of the Metro station at the Rákóczi Square was selected in the design phase to avoid the felling of three protected plane trees. In one case the outline of the station was narrowed to fit the roots of the tree, whereas the part of the station under the other two trees is built by the use of underground mining methods. This will increase the construction costs of the station, but the conservation and protection of the environment is a priority in each case throughout the implementation of the Metropolitan project. The same applies to the preparatory works such as the reconstruction of the Béla Bartók Road. It is a well-known fact that the project literally skirted the protected trees, so no harm to any of them has been made.
On the Rákóczi Square only trees that are not protected may be felled. It is planned to fell altogether 22 trees, four because of diseases, and 18 because of the construction. These will be replaced with 140 new trees in total.
