SOUTH TUNNEL BORER OF METRO 4 EMBARKED TOWARDS KÁLVIN SQUARE

14 september 2009

South TBM of metro 4 left Fővám Square station this morning and according to plans can arrive to Kalvin Square by the middle of October, while its north pair will follow it in two weeks. Simultaneously with the several weeks of maintenance the tunnel builder moved its TBM servicing equipment to St. Gellért Square, so the logistics headquarters of the construction of Pest side tunnels will be here from now, up until the boring machines reach Baross Square next year.

By the beginning of August, without significant technical difficulties, both tunnel sections were completed under the Danube, and then was the few weeks of maintenance usual at these times commenced. TBMs of metro 4 can always be adjusted to the actual ground conditions and this allows for continuous progress. Soil structure of the Pest side is more diverse than that of the Buda side, and it will require more attention in any case, but with consideration of experiences gained on the Buda side the DBR Metro Project Directorate hopes that the remaining section will be built without significant difficulties. The project is at nearly 60% completion.
