RÁKÓCZI SQUARE STATION HAS GIVEN PLACE TO CHARITABLE CONCERT

18 may 2009

Unique charitable concert was given more than 20 meters depth under the ground by the Keep Floyding band on Friday evening at the Rákóczi Square station of metro 4 to be built. The initiative was favoured and supported by Swietelsky, DBR and the British band who brought the music into our country and has offered the total amount of money from the ticket income to the disabled Reménysugár band of Dombovár. The total amount of money gathered was 200 thousand Hungarian forints.
The fabulous idea of the concert that was held under extraordinary backstage has arose last autumn when talking about the underground theatre, and when the Tribute band of Budapest was looking for a unique place to the spherical music of the legendary British band for the concert held in spring, the station building project company of the mother company, the Swietelsky Magyarország Kft. claimed to support the initiative at its own expense. The Pink Floyd held its concert in the Pompeii Hall of ruin in the 70s, Keep Floyding did also want to held its concert in a similar grandiose place to play their most-known pieces. The 400 tickets were sold just over 24 hours.

However, the station is structurally almost 90% finished, and the party offered an opportunity to the public to watch the construction in such a unique frame. The Rákóczi Square station is unique from architectural point of view since in the 600 m2 of pedestrian traffic final structures of the galleries clasping the hall the names of the Rákóczi Ferenc II holdings shall appear. The Contractor gave high priority to the environmental aspects thus beside the tree planting the geometry of the station was developed by the expert such way that the older sycamore at the surface could remain in their original place.

It is not the first time that DBR and Swietelsky supported modern cultural initiatives. Exhibition on fine arts on the public market side was also present on the same station, the best graffiti creations from the world competition are pictured since last summer on the boards around the construction area, but were also held here wine tasting as well as, theater performance.

Similar requests arrive permanently to the DBR Metro Project Directorate to which the works on the places make it possible shall satisfy the demands. An exhibition was opened a few days ago at the Bocskai road station into a future work room with paintings on the metro building and photographs. According to plans, a similar creation to that of Szent Gellért Square with the huge picture on the board shall also appear on the Fővám Square station on the concrete wall from the Danube side that will color the cityscape of Budapest.
