26 january 2010

Tunnels on both sides are completed between the Kálvin Square and Rákóczi Square stations of metro 4. Latter has been reached by the north TBM this morning, the south one broke through the wall of the grandiose and architecturally special station two weeks ago. Maintenance and preparation for the next nearly 450 meters long section up to Népszínház Street is already underway.
The north TBM commenced its works on 18th November 2009 and proceeded also with a very good speed – building averagely 15 meters of tunnel per day – over the section of more than 700 meters behind it. As a result of the careful planning and high quality work provision, no abnormal building movement was experienced by the experts in the vicinity of the tunneling works.

Following the planned maintenance and preparation of six weeks the south TBM can set off at the end of February, while its north pair at the middle of March, towards the second last, the Népszínház Street station. According to the new works schedule provided last autumn the tunnel borers should reach the Baross Square in August and respectively October 2010, however, at the Pest side the tunneling works are proceeding with a greater pace, than as planned, so breaking several records even. Provided the current traveling pace could be maintained until the end, the DBR is hopeful that the tunneling may be completed in June and respectively July over the first section.
