Make a drawing of the 4th line of the Metro!

17 april 2007

The DBR Metro Project Directorate publishes a drawing completion entitled "My friend, the Metro" for the pupils of elementary schools, and also invites classes of grammar schools to visit the Information Centre on the Etele Square.
The board of the BKV Private Limited Company intends to familiarize the building of the metro, the most important transport development project of the last 30 years in Budapest.

This is required to inform more children, parents and teachers about the way of implementing projects in a metropolis, what happens on a project of international renown, or in one word, to bring closer the process and works of metro construction.
This is a unique opportunity for the interested children, and we hope that many pupils and students will join this competition.
The leading sponsor of the competition, Miklós Hagyó, Deputy Mayor, wrote in his letter addressed to the schoolmasters that “the existence of this line of the Metropolitan as part of the Capital’s public transport system will be as obvious for this generation of pupils of elementary and grammar schools as the existence of the old underground or the 1st and 2nd lines of the metro was for us”. He added that the works submitted for this competition will document the history of this age as did the drawings of the earlier generation submitted to the competition entitled “Our life in year 2000”.
All children like to draw; the process of creation fires their imagination and creativity. This is the purpose of this competition, because in this way this huge project will be made apprehensible and accessible, and what is even more important, lovable for children. Pupils of the grammar schools are invited to participate at this competition in the topic of metro construction and travelling by metro.
Any number of pupils of the same class may submit works on behalf of the entire class. Works made by any technique and of any size are acceptable. There will be well-known artists among the members of the selection panel. The works submitted on behalf of the same class will be evaluated jointly, that is, the entire class rather than individual pupils will be awarded. The first three place winner classes of each age group will receive valuable prizes, and the best works will be exhibited. The classes have the option to use the First Prize anytime within a year, on days coordinated in advance.

Thinking of the more "mature" age group organized visits to the Information Centre for students of 10-14 years of age will be available.
The Information Centre offers a tour of the metro construction using professional "guide" mock-ups, maps and photographs. All visiting students and teachers will receive two fares each so the return trip will be free for the visitors. More surprises await students at the Information Centre: the classes visiting the Information Centre will participate in a draw.
