HUNDREDS ON THE STARTING-LINE ON SATURDAY FOR A CLEANER BUDAPEST
On September 20th 2008 the events of the Józsefváros Health Day took place the fourth time this year. This event of outstanding importance for the 8th district was organized on Mátyás Square in the heart of the Magdolna Quarter. This year the 4th line of the metro – the Green Line – was also represented at this event.
Dedicated and competent experts of the 8th District Department of the National Public Health and Medical Officer Service provided comprehensive information on prevention and called the attention of residents to the need for action for longer and healthier life.
This year the organizers of the Józsefváros Health Day prepared attractive and lively programs. Visitors could attend free of charge screening tests of blood pressure, blood sugar, breathing function, cholesterol, allergy, dentistry, bone density and get computer-aided risk health analysis. The experts provided advice on drug abuse, adolescent problems and injections, prevention of cancer, lifestyle and allergy. The participants were also invited to give blood and learn the basics of first aid.
In addition to the health tests the organizers offered visitors participation in shows in the topic of crime and accident prevention, handicraft workshops, quiz games, dancing and exercises of remedial gymnastics.
The builders of the 4th line of the metro were represented again at this event. The new line of the metro is the most advanced and most environment-conscious project of community transport in Budapest compliant with the environmental and health standards of the 21st century. Apart from the information stand the builders of the 4th line of the metro took an active part in the programs by hosting a foot race and a balloon-blower contest, a quiz on the 4th line of the metro, screened movies and disseminated the latest information brochure on the construction of metro stations in the district. Hundreds of people took part in the metro foot race and participated in pools thereby expressing their support of this initiative.
