FOUNDATION STONE OF THE KELENFÖLD VEHICLE DEPOT OF METRO 4 IS PLACED

28 july 2009

THE GROUP OF BUILDINGS WITH A FLOOR AREA OF NEARLY 20,000 M2 WILL BE BUILT FOR TWO YEARS
Construction works of the Kelenföld vehicle depot of metro 4 are commenced: the investor DBR and the contractor Swietelsky together laid the symbolic foundation stone of the large area building group this morning. The eminently modern facility, which includes the dispatcher centre of the metro line also, will be completed in two years and its main task will be to provide overall service to metro 4.

The tender announced last summer to build a vehicle depot for the new metro line was won by Swietelsky Magyarország Kft. out of five companies in the frame of an open public procurement procedure. The HUF 11.5 milliard contract was signed in April this year. Subsequent to the preparatory works, now in possession of the final building permit the actual construction works may commence over the area of more than 6 hectares bordered by Andor street – Etele square – Borszéki street. Total area of the vehicle depot buildings will be approximately 20,000 m2. The construction time period as per the contract is 107 weeks, in other words according to the plans by June 2011 the full vehicle depot will be completed, the vehicle storing hall of which would be able to accommodate the new Alstom trains for metro 4 likely at the end of 2010 already.

Besides the 1,500 m2 track-maintenance building, the ground floor of the 5,000 m2 area central building will give room to the repair workshops, and on the 900 m2 floors of the 8 storey building dispatchers will control the traffic of the entire metro 4. The vehicle storing building is the largest with its 11,000 m2 floor area. This in total will be able to accommodate 100 metro carriages, which capacity later will also allow servicing to the trains of the second section planned to Bosnyák square and respectively the third section planned to the Flower market at Budaörs. Equipment of the vehicle depot is suited to the fully automatic – driverless – metro, in other words moving of vehicles within the depot will be provided by the computerized train control system.
