ABOUT THE ROLE OF GUSZTÁV KLADOS
Gusztáv Klados has worked on the constructions of metros 2 and 3 of Budapest, and then in Calcutta at the metro construction there, and later as a chief building manager at the construction of the Channel Tunnel beneath the English Channel between England and France. Subsequently, he worked as a building manager in Lesotho, South Africa, where he was building a section of the northern water transport tunnel, and then he acted as the chief building manager for the metro lines 2 and 3 of Athens. From here he went to Singapore, where he directed the works of the deep tunnel sewerage system. For five years he was the senior project manager of the gigantic Smart Tunnel of the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, and then after an airport express metro as a short detour in New Delhi he returns home to Hungary in June 2008.
Initially he took part in the management of the metro 4 construction as an operational project manager, and then following the unanimous decision of the General Assembly of Budapest he is the project director of the DBR Metro Project Directorate from November 2008 with continuously attending duties of the operational project manager and even the former deputy chief executive officer responsible for the field, as well. His employment was approved by the Ministry of Finance, the European Investment Bank and the European Union also. His salary has been made public from the beginning, it was known by everyone. Among the executives and managers of public companies Gusztáv Klados is an exception indeed. In fact, his salary should not be compared with that of Hungarian company executives, but international wages. According to many he is one of the World’s top 10 tunnel and metro specialists. He left a similar payment at his former work place, and even turned down a financially more favorable proposal, when he was contacted by the city government of Budapest in order to return home to Hungary.
His knowledge is so special an expertise that it will be paid on international market price, or if not, it will be not available. His task is not only coordinating the work of numerous contractors, he also has to handle the ever increasing number of contractor claims as worded with vast experience by world recognized lawyers, and respectively the ensuing crisis situations. Since he has been managing the metro 4 project, he saved milliards of Forints for Budapest, for instance he found the appropriate technical solution for building the platform tunnel of the Fővám Square station, or by that of proving about numerous contractor claims of their being without merit, just think of the dispute with BAMCO. With only one of his good decisions he could save the multiple amount of his annual salary for Budapest. Otherwise, if we consider an annual basis, it is not true that he receives the highest payment among the executive officers of public companies, as Gusztáv Klados does not receive any extra premium over and above his regular salary, and it obviously contributes to his place taken on the “list”.
