TRAFFIC DIVERSIONS IN THE KELETI RAILWAY STATION AREA

4 april 2013

On 4 April 2013, the main entrance of Keleti Railway Station was closed down and is expected to remain shut until August this year. One of the branches of the subway stairway in front of it coming up to the surface has also been closed. The other branch of the stairway was closed down on the next day, 5 April, at 10:00 a.m. Thus the station can only be entered from the sides, either from Kerepesi út or Thököly út. Due to the construction works, the pavement in front of the main entrance is closed, and pedestrians will have to use the bus stop area, and we will therefore move the bus stop of the No. 5 and no. 7 group of buses closer to the Thököly út entrance.

A new phase in the reconstruction of Baross tér in District VIII began at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday 4 April 2013, and thus the following traffic diversions were introduced on 5 April, and are expected to last until the end of August this year:

• The main entrance of Keleti Railway Station has been closed, entry is possible from the side gates. Those coming with Metro M2, the nos. 80 and 80A trolleys, the no. 24 tram, the no. 178 bus will find the Kerepesi út side entrance closer, while those coming with the nos. 20E, 30, 30A, and 230 buses and the nos. 73, 76, 78 and 79 trolleys from Garay utca will find the entrance on Thököly út easier to reach.

• So as passengers of the busy nos. 5, 7, 7E, 173, 173E, 907 and 973 buses need not walk too much to reach the station entrance, we moved the stop called Keleti pályaudvar M of the buses mentioned above heading towards Zugló to Thököly út, just after the road crossing of Baross tér. In front of the railway station, we put up a pedestrian way whereby the moved bus stop can be reached safely.

In the renewed Baross tér, the area in front of the Railway Station will be an exclusively pedestrian space after the completion of the M4 Project, and thus the stairway now closed down will be eliminated, the connections between the surface and subway areas will be served by several other newly built stairways.

The section of the Rákóczi út - Kerepesi út route going through the square will continue to be a dual carriageway; near the crossing of Festetics utca, the alignment of lanes heading towards Hungária körút will be changed, and drivers are kindly requested to pay special attention in this section.
